Debt Settlement Program
You know, it's funny looking back at this stage in the game of life only to realize that our 9th grade science teacher was right when he told us that there is no such thing as a free lunch. At that age, it seems that we would have believed almost nothing that people told us about obstacles. But, as we progress and get to know the world a little more, we begin to realize that there does, indeed, seem to be a cost for many of the choices that we make throughout our lives. And the same applies to a debt settlement program...
Ahh, the beauty of it all...
And debt settlement programs can be very beautiful. It all starts with your debt settlement professional contacting your creditors and negotiating on your behalf for the very lowest final balances for settlement that they can agree on. This usually ends up to be about 40-60% of the original remaining balance - and that is a huge discount! Upon the culmination of your debt settlement program you will then be expected to pay off the remaining balances in full, that is to say, one lump sum. That may very well be the first obstacle that many of us will have with a debt settlement program. If you do have the available cash, then your debt will have been settled and you will, officially, be off the hook with your creditors. No more will you have to send in those awful monthly payments. That is, unless you get yourself back into debt...
Another drawback to debt settlement services is that they wreak havoc on your credit report. Sure, you satisfied the debts, but not according to the original agreements. It shows up as a blemish on your credit report for the next 7 years or so and will not bode well for your overall credit score. Still, a debt settlement program is the right choice for many people who are more concerned with saving money at this point. After all, once you have completed the debt settlement program of your choosing, then you will be able to allocate that money to something else for the future.
